Representative Adam Schiff, the ranking Democratic on the House Intelligence Committee, isn’t mincing words in his criticism of Republicans and President Donald Trump.
Schiff attempted to release a memo in rebuttal to a memo released by Republican Representative Devin Nunes. Nunes’s memo was an attempt to undermine the FBI’s investigation into Russian tampering with the 2016 Presidential Election, which failed. When Schiff and fellow Democrats attempted to release their own memo detailing Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants for spying on at least one person associated with the Trump Presidential Campaign.
Of course, Trump did not approve the Democratic memo for release because it contained secret sources and methods that could not be released to the public. Trump said in a tweet that, “The Democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew… would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the White House for lack of transparency”.
During an interview with CBS News’s Major Garrett, Schiff responded to Republican and the president. Schiff told Garrett that the FBI had referred to Nunes’s memo as “misleading” and said that Trump “doesn’t want the public to see the underlying facts”. When discussing Trump’s refusal to release the Democratic rebuttal memo, Schiff said that “hypocrisy of this just kind of reaches out and grabs you by the throat”.
Hypocrisy is a hallmark of most Republicans and of President Donald Trump. If a person is a hypocrite, constantly denies things by crying “fake news”, and seems to only use religion to further their agenda, that person is probably a Republican.
