A recently released poll conducted by ABC and The Washington Post shows that most Americans support special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian tampering and collusion during the 2016 Presidential Election.
Of the 1,002 randomly selected adults polled, 69% support Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, while only 25% oppose it. Further, 64% of Americans support the investigation into President Donald Trump’s business dealings with only 32% opposing it. When asked about the investigation into the possibility that Trump paid women hush money to remain quiet about possible sexual encounters with the president, 58% supported it and 35% were in opposition.
Women, according to results, appeared to distrust Trump more than men. A majority of women supported the investigation into hush money at 65%, while only 50% of men were in support. Women were more supportive of Mueller’s Russian collusion investigation, and the investigations into Trump’s business dealings than men, by 5 points and 8 points respectively.
Those polled were also asked about their opinions concerning Trump firing former FBI Director James Comey. Only 33% of Americans agreed with Trump’s decision, while 47% disagreed. Furthermore, of those polled, the majority stated that they were more likely to trust Comey than Trump, with 48% believing Comey and only 32% believing Trump.
This is bad news for Trump. As rumors continue to swirl that the president wants to fire Mueller as a way to end the investigation, these numbers show that a majority of the American public support the investigation, and if nothing else want to see what Mueller and company can find.
