The top Democrat and senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Dianne Feinstein, shocked the entire political world and left the entire Republican party reeling after she released the committee’s interview with Glenn Simpson, the founder of Fusion GPS —the political research firm that authored the Steele dossier.
This was, at least in part, an attempt to quickly squelch the completely unwarranted and clearly political calls for new special counsel investigation by Republican bad boy, Lindsey Graham (SC). And it looks like her plan worked.
Feinstein released a statement along with the transcript:
“The innuendo and misinformation circulating about the transcript are part of a deeply troubling effort to undermine the investigation into potential collusion and obstruction of justice. The only way to set the record straight is to make the transcript public.”
While quite lengthy, the transcript may be found here in its entirety. What matters most is that Simpson’s testimony effectively obliterates the absolutely insane conspiracy theory that it was in fact the Clinton campaign that colluded with Russia… only to then have Russia flip and decide to hack the DNC instead.
Notwithstanding the fact that the timeline is way off and requires that the listener or reader completely must forget all about the June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr, a Kremlin-linked lawyer, and a band of a half dozen other ne’er-do-wells, it still never made a single bit of sense. Nonetheless, Trump mouthpieces — both within the Fox News family and beyond — have tried their best to try to make that, um, alternative reality a thing. The transcript blows every bit of that out of the water.
Since the president’s approval rating has hovered since June 2017 in the 35-39% range, there actually might have been a couple of die-hard Trumpsters who happily replaced But Her Emails with But She Started It And Russia Turned On Her. I mean… it’s possible, right?
Republicans sure seem to think so because they are incredibly salty about the release of the transcript.
The fact that Sneaky Dianne Feinstein, who has on numerous occasions stated that collusion between Trump/Russia has not been found, would release testimony in such an underhanded and possibly illegal way, totally without authorization, is a disgrace. Must have tough Primary!

Chairman of the Senate Judiciary, Chuck Grassley (R-IA) was also displeased with Feinstein, though he had the sense to cloak his anger as being concern that the release might make it more difficult for the committee to get information in the future.
Senator Dianne Feinstein clarified that it was actually Glenn Simpson himself who requested that she release the transcript.
