Barack Obama can be described in many ways. Intelligent, calm, thoughtful, compassionate, funny, family man, well-rounded… the list could go on.
Another word that could be added is “prescient”, because Obama said something kind of psychic during the last days of the 2016 Presidential campaign. In response to the rumor that a Trump staffer had taken over The Orange One’s Twitter, Obama said,
“In the last two days, they had so little confidence in his self-control they said we are just going to take away your Twitter. Now, if somebody can’t handle a Twitter account, they can’t handle the nuclear codes. If somebody starts tweeting at three in the morning because SNL made fun of you, then you can’t handle the nuclear codes.”
Yes, we’ve managed to make it over a year into Trump’s presidency without a nuclear incident, or other political or social disaster. But that’s not for lack of Trump trying to stir up something.
There are ongoing protests against the president all over the country. There are several active campaigns attempting to have him impeached. And Trump himself has insulted or threatened North Korea, and it’s leader Kim Jong Un, over and over and over again.
Ironically, many of those occurred on Trump’s Twitter feed. Once Trump won the presidency, someone made the poor decision to give him back control of his Twitter. And one quick glance at that feed shows that the president does, in fact, illustrate a severe lack of self-control.
You would think that after a year, the words “President Donald Trump” would have lost their ability to make one cringe. You would also think that, after a year, the reprehensible things the man says and does would stop shocking and embarrassing the American people. But you would be terribly mistaken.
