The House Intelligence Committee may claim that the entire Russia scandal is nothing and that President Trump has been exonerated. But the truth is, the whole committee is a mess.
Republican Congressman Tom Rooney has decided that he’s not going to go along with the rest of his party and is speaking out about the House Intel Committee and its findings. While speaking to Erin Burnett at CNN, Rooney said that the House Intel Committee has “lost all credibility”. He continued, saying, “We’ve gone completely off the rails and now we’re basically a political forum for people to leak information to drive the day’s news”. Rooney also reminded the public that Democrats are going to release their own report, which will detail the nature of the Trump-Russia scandal. This follows the release of the Republican report, which was clearly a desperate attempt to save Trump and his sycophantic followers.
On top of Rooney’s criticism, Republican Representative Trey Gowdy is also now refuting the House Intel Committee’s report. According to Politico:
A source familiar with Gowdy’s thinking said the congressman believes there’s no difference between opposing Clinton and backing Trump in what had become, effectively, a two-person race. The source added that Gowdy “disagrees with the conclusion” that the intelligence agencies got it wrong.
The source went on to say that Gowdy “believes the debate over whether desiring a negative outcome for Clinton necessarily meant Russia had a preference for candidate Trump is a distinction that doesn’t make a difference”.
Considering the amount of time, effort, and money Gowdy spent trying to sabotage Hillary Clinton over the so-called Benghazi scandal, this is a remarkable development. One may wonder if Gowdy himself is caught up in the Russia scandal, or if he simply doesn’t want to go down with Trump’s ship.
